Brief description:

Jatujak street market is quite well known market to both Thais and foreigners. On any week end or any holidays, there will be a lot of people walking around for shopping. The market is managed by Bangkok Metropolitan to provide cheap products with good quality to the Thai people with its prime objective to stabilize the cost of living.


The market distributes a variety of products; eg. fashion products, garments, laces, including stones and precious metal made for decoration. There are also many imported products from many Asian countries such as Nepal, Pakistan, China, Iran etc., particularly silver wares, silver pots and some handmade and crafted products.




Spend your time walking around:

The market was initially located at Sanam Luang (The Royal Field) close to the Grand Palace. Because the place was used for official and royal ceremonies quite often, the government at that time considered moving the market to Jatujak. The area is much bigger than before and now it is very popular among Thais and foreigners for shopping.

Jatujak market has a trapezium shape with tree sides face three major streets, Paholyothin, Kampaengpetch and Kampaengpetch 2 streets while the other side faces with Somdej Pranangchao Sirikit garden. The area compound has been divided into square shape blocks with few major lanes while the rest are mainly used for shops with very narrow walking pathways. Every Thursday, there will be a lot of flower, orchid and orchard trees for those who love garden decoration to shop around.

The market distributes a variety of products. You will be able shop modern and fashionable garments with cheap or bargaining price. There are also various decorating items made from paper, fabric or metal as well as antique looked household used products.

Some of the shops are foreigner owned selling the imported handmade and crafted merchandises, particularly those our friends from Asian countries eg. Iran, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangaladesh, Afkanistan and China. Those people are very happy and enjoy lives in Bangkok, being able to earn their livings and enjoy eating and spending money as much as they can earn.

After walking quite a few hours and being tire, you can stop and try a Thai style massage with very cheap price, 200-250 baht per hour. As you can see from the pictures that how the massage getting very popular among foreigners.

The opposite side of Jatujak market is the traditional fresh fruits and foods market called “Or Tor Kor” market. It is well known for good quality products with comparably expensive price. However, it is understand that most of food selling here is well screened for quality. You can walk across the street or walking through underground of subway station where there are many underground shops waiting for shopping as well.
